Step 1 – Identify the hazards
What is a hazard?
A hazard is anything that can cause harm. In a childcare setting, a hazard could be:
- A substance (such as sand, playdough, cleaning spray etc.)
- Food
- Toys and equipment
- Security of entry and exit points
- Medication
- Unattended children
NOTE: There are a large number of everyday things that may appear harmless or go unnoticed but could be dangerous if not recognised.
